Here is the true story of G.R. Uji:

On December 29, 1983, at 8:38am, an Artist was born in Bellingham, Washington. His name was Gabriel Rodriguez. Gabriel was grateful to be born in the fabulous 80s and various media such as video games, TV and film, groovy commercials, and others caught his eye. He discovered himself as an artist and became obsessed with new media art. One of his older friends introduced him to his "toys” which included a Magnavox Odyssey and ATARI 2600. He fell in love with the classic games such as Ping Pong and Pac-Man. Later, he discovered Nintendo and his lifelong love of video gaming had begun...

In his childhood, Gabriel loved drawing dark subjects and mighty heroes with many abs (don't ask him why). Sometimes he fell into trouble at school by teachers who did not appreciate his dark point of view. Meh. In the early 90s, his grandfather let him borrow his heavy VHS-camcorder to create stop-motion clay animation movies and silly videos. He also created a short film based on a chapter from "The Catcher in the Rye", for his English class at Sehome High School. It was his first "big" film. Later, while attending Western Washington University/Fairhaven College, he made a 30 minute film, "Black Diamond", for his senior project. During his studies at Sehome and Western, he studied new media art, history/culture of video games and films, graphic design, and art history. He became inspired by many fabulous surrealists and artists such as H.R. Giger and H.P. Lovecraft, Yoshitaka Amano, etc... His achievements include an article in the local paper and various recognitions and awards, including a scholarship to Western. He graduated Sehome High School spring of 2002 and Western Washington University/Fairhaven College spring of 2007.

Gabriel began using "Uji" as his middle name. This is to avoid confusion between he and another aspiring artist by the same name. Thus, he is now known as Gabriel ‘Uji’ Rodriguez or G.R. Uji.

G.R. Uji has a natural talent when it comes to drawing, painting, photography, film-making and animation. He considers himself a hardcore gamer and collector of old video games including many DOS titles. He finds inspiration through films, photographies, video games, graphic designs, and the history of different cultures. These influences serve to shape his visual style.

Quite simply, art is G.R. Uji’s passion!
